John Jansen is an expert in polymer science with a Master degree (cum Laude) and a PhD in Polymer Technology at the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Materials Science of the Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands. He has long-term international experience in both public and private academic and industrial research labs. After his PhD in 1996 he was a visiting researcher at DSM Resins, Zwolle (NL) in 1997, a Research Scientist at the Agrotechnological Research Institute, ATO-DLO in Wageningen (NL) in 1998-1999, a Visiting Researcher at the CNR Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, former ICM-CNR, in Milan (IT) in 2000-2001, and presently as a researcher in the Institute on Membrane Technology from December 2001.
He is or has been responsible for various national and international research project, the most prestigious one the European Project in 7th Framework Programme “DoubleNanoMem – Nanocomposite and nanostructured polymeric membranes for gas and vapour separation” of which he was the coordinator and scientific responsible. Within the CNR organization he is responsible for two research lines on membranes for gas and vapour separations and on membranes for the purification of hydrogen.
His scientific production consists of more than 50 research papers in peer reviewed journals, four book chapters, a book, two patents and approximately 25 oral presentations at national and international conferences and workshops, four of which as invited lectures
In his present position, John Jansen has a broad but specific interest in polymer science and materials science in relation to membrane preparation, membrane characterization and membrane use. Because of previous experience this further extends to polymer chemistry and polymer physics in general.

Membrane preparation by phase inversion techniques.
Dense polymeric membranes.
Mixed matrix membranes and Ionic liquid membranes.
Gas and vapour separation.
Organic solvent nanofiltration.
Membrane characterization (morphology, thermal properties, mechanical properties, free volume, physical aging).
Basic transport phenomena in polymeric and hybrid membranes.
High free volume polymers: glassy perfluoropolymers and polymers of intrinsic microporosity.
