Biographical Sketch: 

Degree with honours in Chemistry and PhD in Chemical Science. Visiting Researcher at the University of Ann Arbor (MI, USA), POLYMAT Institute (San Sebastián, SPAIN) and Nanjing Tech University (Nanjing, China). Lecturer and member of the Doctoral School Committee for the STFCM PhD programme at UNICAL. Supervisor and mentor of PhD/Master students in Italy and abroad. Member of the scientific advisory committee of CHross LAB within DSCTM-CNR working in cultural assets. Expert evaluator of research projects for funding Italian and abroad Agencies (ERC; EWI; MUR) and member of PhD/Best paper awards juries. Associate Editor of Adv Manuf ELSP, Guest Editor of special issues, Member of Editorial Boards of IPRJB and Editor of four Books. Keynote and invited speaker at and chair for international Conferences. Participant in numerous international (EU, MAECI, CAS) and national (MIUR) research projects. Scientific responsible for 2DMEMPUR project (MAECI-NSFC), PI for research contracts with multinational Companies (P&G, SAATI, GVS).

 

Main fields of research: 

  • Green manufacturing approaches to design multifunctional nanocomposite membranes applied to separation processes: water desalination and water reuse; valorization of mineral and natural resources; environmental remediation; gas separation; adaptive systems to regulate microclimatic conditions for textiles, agriculture, building and cultural heritage assets.
  • Directed assembly of low dimensional nanomaterials (quantum dots, 1D, 2D materials, nanoparticles…), bio-based and reactive compounds in nanofilms and coatings for assisted molecular identification and separation.
  • Design and fabrication of dual/multi-stimuli-responsive smart membranes with associated sensing, induced-gated channels, antiwetting, self-cleaning, antifouling, adsorption/desorption, driven mass, heat and charge transport, molecular-recognizable separation, catalytic properties
  • Surface engineering: Study and modification of tailored chemistry and morphology; Interfacial interaction; Hydration/ Dehydration; Roll-to-roll effect
